I've Seen the Future: Poo-Powered Street Lights!

If you've got a dog, you've got poo. The question is: What should you do with it? There are many, many options available to you. (All of which I will leave to the imagination for now.) However, if you're ecologically-minded, you might try using it as fuel.

A dog park in Cambridge, MA, has recently installed a "methane digester," which takes unwanted pooch poo and uses it to power street lights, a tea cart, and a popcorn machine. (Not sure how I feel about that last one.)

Apparently it's a pretty easy process turning poo into power. (You can read more about it here.) Which makes me think . . .

Dear Everyone:

Methane is methane. Although I can just see the slogan for my brother's domestic pack now -- canines for energy independence on doggie t-shirts. If only his designated speed dog (half saluki, by rights it ought to have more moving violations than I) would hold still long enough for people to read a doggie t-shirt....

OOPS -- it just occurred to me we're not all thinking the digesting device is piping the methane to a generator, and the generator is what's powering the popcorn maker. At least I hope that is what's going on.

On the other hand -- here's a dog park with a POPCORN POPPER! That's cool. I know a lot of dogs that enjoy their people's popcorn. Just as long as they don't have a "small breeds" carousel.

Oh. Oh, um, lovely. Wait... dogs? You know, that reminds me of a quote that I used just today. "Because I'm in love with America... and dogs". (Mason Greyback from Wizards of Waverly Place, Alex Charms a Boy (or You Muse, You Lose, to you UK-ers). Speaking of Wizards of Waverly Place... come check out my blog all about the show at luvwowp.blogspot.com!
