I Give In

This afternoon, I'm going to purchase the latest Harry Potter book. Once it's in my hands, I shall read it cover to cover without stopping for food, water, or social companionship. So if you don't hear from me for a little while, don't alert the authorities.

Just one last bit of weirdness before I leave for the bookstore. Last Sunday, Brooklyn residents woke to see a beautiful, barefoot young woman sleeping on a ledge ABOVE the door of brownstone. According to this report (with pictures), she was wearing a bridal gown and clutching a bag shaped like a teddy bear. Inside the bag was a diamond ring in a Tiffany box.

The woman didn't utter a single word as police officers helped her down. No one knows why she was in Brooklyn--or how she climbed up to the ledge in an ankle-length wedding dress.

If anyone's looking for a good way to start a story, this is it.

We LOVE you Harry! Leave me a comment on what you thought of the book once you finish it.

That reminds me. My blogging friends Miss Erin and Traci both received advanced readers copies of Empress's Tomb. I know you're pretty tight with them, but still. I'm curious how some fans receive advanced readers copies. Like I said before, just curious (okay, and I'm slightly jealous; I've always wanted to just touch an advance copy of a book).

I work part time for a bookstore. The staffers there look through the ARCs sent by the various publishers. We choose what to read, then provide reviews for the owners. The reviews are often shared with the book reps and/or Booksense. It is fun, but also frustrating to have read something and there is no one else with whom to talk about it.

I am totally obsessed with Harry Potter. I finished #7 this afternoon. I'm not going to tell any plot secrets, but J.K. Rowling did #7 much much better than I thought she would.

I am now reading my little sister HP #1. Since she's insisting that she can't read, I have to read it for her. With my constantly watching the movies, though, I'm afraid she knows the plot of Harry Potter 1-4!

Hi,

ET isn't out just yet. They're talking about what's known as "Advance Reading Copies," which are early versions of the book. The real thing will be available in mid-September!

Hi Anonymous,

Usually a publisher sends out ARCs to people they hope with write reviews of the book--you know, newspaper reporters, bloggers, etc.

By the way, I'm honored that your first Internet conversation is with me! (Sometimes it can take me a little while to write back if I'm away from the computer.)

I LOVE Harry Potter. I read it like in 24 hours of getting it. I was at this party at my library at midnight and got it then. I hope J.K. writes an encyclopedia of Harry Potter or something like that!
