New York Travel Guide: The Earth Room

So I've heard that a few of you guys are planning trips to New York this summer. Well I have a recommendation for you. The Earth Room is a 140-ton "interior earth sculpture" created in 1977 by artist Walter De Maria. What's an interior earth sculpture, you ask? In this case it's an enormous room filled with dirt.

Now before you object, here are four reasons you might consider giving it a look:

1. It's really weird and wonderful in person.

2. It's worth over a million dollars. (If you can figure out a way to get it to your house.)

3. It's free to visit.

4. It's worm-free (for now, hint-hint).

Oh yeah, and while you're here you might want to drop by THE COOLEST PARK IN THE UNIVERSE.

wow that is so cool. i am leaving for new york this coming monday i will definitely go see the park. maybe even the sculpture. new york has such amazing stuff, in my state, the closest thing that happens to amazing is like finding a fly in your soup. aka: very very boring! i can't wait to go to New York!!!!! of course i go every year to visit my cousins but it is always exciting, seeing as how it is a 6 hour flight from the west coast to the east coast, but i am prepared with books, ipods, and a dvd player!!!!

Hey, I'm going to NYC tomorrow!
I think I will go to that interior earth sculpture. And maybe even THE COOLEST PARK IN THE UNIVERSE. And I would also like to see the closed off streets. Near Times Square, right?

My mom told me about that park! We drove by where it was once! Except when we saw it it was only old railway tracks not an actual park yet.

Too bad I have no plans to visit New York any time in the near future. :( I'd love to visit both place though. SO COOL!!!
Los Angeles is kind of cool, but becomes boring when you've lived there your entire life!
Maybe I will make the trek to NY one day!!!

So it's a room full of nice clean dirt? ^^

Story: Hayao Miyazaki-sama who made the movie Spirited Away, he has a museum-type place in Japan. he wanted to have a room full of mud where the visitors could get all mucky for fun, but it wasn't allowed. He also wanted to have lots of wobbly suspension bridges for visitors to run across, but that was also not allowed. Miyazaki is such a cool guy.

That park is great! I'd love to go there.
We have three week holidays before we begin term 3.
I hope all of you have wonderful holidays, and remember to make the most of them!

Ananka: Do you enjoy the Harry Potter series? I have almost finished reading the first book.
[I know! It's sad I've only just started reading them now!]

I tried to go to the park when it first opened, but there was so much hype that the line was at least two blocks long.

Yeah...I know I'll visit it sometime...
