Say Hello to Miss Outdoors

I think we have a theme going today. Dakota Abbott (see above) was crowned Miss Outdoors in 2008. She's the only woman to have won the beauty pageant--and a muskrat skinning contest. (Apparently people eat them--who knew? Anyone out there ever nibbled a muskrat? If so, please write in.)

Oh my gosh! I am overseas and downstairs the appartment, there were three newborn kittens! The mother took two of them away, and we are left with one, its tiny. It was crawling in my hair. That ıs what that muskrat on the womans shoulder reminded me of...
Does anybody have any advice on raising this newborn kitten? Its the size of a hand. We tried to give it milk but its so small it wants its mother, and its far too small to eat. Im so scared, i dont know what to do with it!

I love her!! A girl with wits, guts, and down-to-earth, not over materialized beauty.

Via Boing Boing means she got it from the artsy-cool website called boing boing.

I haven't had muskrat, but I've had groundhog. It was good, not much different from turkey.

OMG that's horrible! The skinning thing...

Hey kiki, that is you right? You should go to a vet, see what they tell you. At that age, they need a mother. Since they don't, you should be the substitute... You could try feeding it with a syringe (without the needle, obviously)

IRREGULAR KIKI-

if it cries at night, put a little clock next to him while he sleeps also put a stuffed animal or something soft next to him! the clock will sound like another heartbeat from his little brothers and sister , and the stuffed animal will feel like his bro or sis next to him...! but make sure that he has a big full belly and ofcorse you probably know this but keep him warm and make sure he has a full belly! X3
hope it goes well! :D

I'm Dakota's sister, muskrat is definitely an acquired taste, but I like it. It's all in how you cook it.

Just to clear up...we come from a family of trappers, earn a living that way. We are licensed to trap these rats, if you don't they clog up our estuaries and kill off tons of other animals (they build houses and tunnel like beavers). Back in the day these contests were a way to bring together the trapping community and make some fun out of some VERY hard work. I know it offends some people, and I apologize, but we are all good people and it's not a sport done out of malice, merely a by-product of our life's work. I do understand how it could upset other people though.

Our cousin is the Women's world champion, our other sister, aunts and cousins are also title-holders. Kota just happened to also be the Queen that year, and she was quite the ambassador!

Dakota's Sister: Wow! How nice of you to stop by. I don't think anyone was offended were they? (There are a few vegetarians lurking around here, I guess.) I certainly wouldn't mind giving muskrat a try. You should know that this blog is devoted to butt-kicking girls, so a post about your sister is meant to be an honor.

Give our best to Dakota, and congrats to the whole kick-butt female side of your family.
