Your Very Own Anime Eyes

(Above: From Worth 1000)

Ever dreamed of looking just like a cartoon character? Well here's your chance! Scores of Japanese websites now sell "extra wide contact lenses," which will give you the big-eyed gaze of an anime girl (or guy). They come in a wide range of colors and can even correct your vision (if you're into silly things like 20/20 eyesight).

I'm not sure what to think. Part of me says these would be super cool on Halloween. And part of me finds the whole thing really creepy. What about you?

That's a little creepy. But then, I never really liked anime....it would be kind of scary bumping into someone wearing those!

Wow that's... I'm torn between "cute" and "creepy" and of course, "are you sure that's safe for your eyes?"

Looks like one of those things that'd look totally cute on adorable Asian girls but totally dorky on big lunky Americans like me! Y'know, like kimonos on gaijin look like bathrobes...

dude... would NOT want to get into a staring contest with one of them. it would get freaky fast, and she wouldn't hae to blink! my friend has contact, and she just stares you down with her contacted eyes! *shudders*

So exactly how does it make their eyes bigger? Does it force the skin around the eyes to stretch out or something... it sounds painful. I think it is a scam, everything else on that website is; rollers that "melt the fat away"... Really?

Kitty: Do you mean like cosplaying, or just like in everyday dress? If you mean like the latter, then it's same here for me! I love to, even if it makes people stare!

Well, I don't have a problem with it: In fact, I think this is one temporary body mod that i WOULD do. (I hate being manipulated to feel that i HAVE to do something with my body. YOU know, like wear a BRA! Hahahaha.)
What is the difference between marketers going for 'eye modifying' contacts and marketers going for push-up bras or high-heeled shoes? IMHO, If these are creepy, then, to be consistent, shouldn't 4-inch heels be creepy too? Besides, that's WAY more painful. ;)

I think it looks interesting. Especially in the photo, it gives the girl a very inhuman look. But I'm not sure it would look good on someone like me who has super sharp facial features and euro eyes. I would be interested in how it would look though. (Plus i need contacts because I'm half blind... :)) Is this something that you could get at any vision center or do they have to be ordered special?

@Mightymaeve: Tbh the limitation should go like this: high-heels & clothing is ok because everyone can see what you do: push ups and contact lenses are not cool 'cause they may fool others to think you're something you really aren't.

What makes this question difficult, is that makeup is the biggest "am I pretty or not" scam of them all, but still accepted.

I guess the more absurd media makes the beauty aspiration the more biased we become about "boosts".

But to me, buying LotR Frodo contact lenses(bright blue eyes) would be like wearing a Brad Pitt bodysuit. Total scam.
