This Week's Edition of WHAT IS IT?

A blogger in Indonesia recently found the amazing "thing" shown above growing in his garden. He suspects it may be a mushroom of some sort, but he's been unable to identify it. So, in the meantime, he's named it the "Zombie Hand." (Love it!)

According to his post, the organism emits a foul odor, "like dead fish or dead rat." He also says he's met other people who have more colorful versions of the same mushroom growing in their gardens.

So what is it? Whoever can correctly identify this remarkable organism will win our eternal admiration!

This kind of thing is one of the reasons I love Ananka's Diary--it's weird, hilarious, and the tiniest gross and rolled into one!

Zombie hand xD It reminded me right off the bat of the movie Corpse Bride, where the dead girl's hand is sticking out of the ground.

I immediately thought of a zombie hand when I saw it! And the part about "emitting a foul odor" could easily be attributed to a it being a corpse! ooo scary.

It looks like a plant that opens up, and when something touches it, BAM, it snaps shut, catching the object. [yikes!]

The word 'hand' is making me sick right now. Around 20 minutes ago I was at the supermarket, and I was skipping to my mum after I got my cooking ingredients. I slipped hit my elbow badly and now my arm and hand hurts. Badly. =( Apparently... they wiped the floors.. Where was the "CAUTION: WET FLOOR" sign?! I feel like throwing a bucket of water on their faces.

When I first saw it, it reminded me of the Harry Potter movie where he touched the hand and snap it clutches on to him.

I had called my dad over to see this and he said that it came out from a egg shell. Then I enlarged it and I was a shell. Maybe some kind of unknown creature from underground(since it was halfway through the floor).

This is just a thought but I looked at it very closely and in one of the picture there is I think a shell from the ocean. It may have come from the ocean and somehow got there.
