For the Adventurous Eater: Cuy

I've always heard that cuy is delicious. The national dish of Ecuador, it's been eaten by the people of the Andes for more than 4000 years. But I NEVER expected to find out that it's sold in restaurants right here in New York.

That's because cuy tends to freak out Americans (and Swedes and Australians). Odds are, it will freak you out, too. But here at Ananka's Diary, we are citizens of the world, right? We're open to new cultures, new flavors, new experiences, right?

Well keep your mind open while you read this!

PS: In case you don't get it, this is one of those links that may not be for everyone.

PSS: It's not dog.

I where in Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos islands last summer (the most amazing trip, the best month of my life, easely!) and I should have tried it, but I'm a vegetarien, so I couldn't imagine that. But I shouldn't be afraid off it just becaouse it's guinea pig. I mean, it's just like any other animal.

Hehe, poor guinea pigs.... O.e Oh yeah! Thanks for reminding me Kiel (about the pig blood thing XD)! I heard a story:
A father brought his son and a friend to a restaurant. And the father pointed at some sorta steak-like food that was placed on ice and said "Hey son! I want you to try that, it really good. It's Chocolate Meat!" And the father's friend asked the kid's father what the "Chocolate Meat" was, and the father said it was pork meat cooked in blood.

I suppose it's not really different than eating things like chickens (of which I am a big fan) or squirrel. BTW, I do have a friend who has eaten squirrel.
